That’s why we’re proud to announce that all case pieces we manufacture as of September 1, 2023, are fully compliant with the STURDY Act (Stop Tip-overs of Unstable, Risky Dressers on Youth), officially adopted by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on April 19, 2023.
The STURDY Act sets a new federal safety standard for dressers and storage furniture, requiring strong, practical stability tests to prevent dangerous tip-overs. In response, we’ve implemented significant enhancements to ensure our products meet—and exceed—these new safety requirements while maintaining the timeless craftsmanship you expect from Vermont furniture makers.
Here’s how we’ve upgraded our designs for full compliance:

Interlocking Drawer System: All case pieces greater than 27” high, 30 lbs. or more in mass, and with over 3.2 cubic feet of enclosed storage now feature the CompX Timberline Anti-Tipping System 400 from Häfele—a proven mechanism that prevents multiple drawers from opening simultaneously, reducing the risk of instability.
